Torchbearers, Relaying the Message

Saturday 21 Jul to Wednesday 31 Oct
Porthcurno Telegraph Museum

In the early to mid-twentieth century, undersea telegraph cables played a vital role in carrying Olympic stories around the world; bearing the torch of the Olympic spirit. This new exhibition takes historic stories from our archives including that of telegraph worker turned Olympian, Fijian boxer Hector Hatch. It also explores how the world's largest telegraph cable station at Porthcurno coped with increased telegraph traffic during Games gone by. The exhibition celebrates the start of the London 2012 Olympic Torch relay from Land's End, giving museum visitors a chance to experience the spirit of the Games past and present.
